MARIA’S SCHOOL
OF
DANCE
COMPETITION MAKE-UP REQUIREMENTS 2007
Unlike recital make-up which can reflect the character/period/or
fantasy of the music, the competition face is a uniform look that
needs to compliment the beauty of the dancer and go with multiple
costume changes. From Classical to Jazz, this look is an audition
face that Judges will be scrutinizing as carefully as the dance
itself. The make-up color choices are standardized and the
application techniques help the dancers look their best for
photographs or videotaping. It is a “professional dance” look.
The competition face relies on neutral colors that easily blend with
any color or style of costume or music. Remember, stage lighting
bleaches out facial features so although the look is very
concentrated and dramatic, it is required to be “seen” during a
competition.
Below are preferred colors and brands. If you cannot find these,
please match the colors you purchase as close as possible, again, we
are looking for a very uniform look.
